Official: Andre Drummond transferred to … Cleveland for nothing, it's here the evening WTF exchange!<

Another big name moving! After D'Angelo Russell's transfer to the Timberwolves, Andre Drummond is going to pack his bags. We knew the pistons were trying to transfer him, and they decided to send him to Ohio.

Heading to Cleveland for Andre Drummond. Yeah, it's no joke, the Horsemen just got the piston pivot back. The news was thrown by Shams Charania of the Athletic. Given DRE's contractual situation, the pistons clearly wanted to transfer him. As a reminder, Drummond has an option of 28.7 million dollars for next season and is therefore potentially in his last year of contract, he will be able to test the market in a few months. In the face of this situation, the Detroit franchise wanted to move him, ideally in exchange for a first pick of the draft. There were discussions, especially with Atlanta, but no team wanted to give up so much. As a result, the closer we got to the trade deadline, the less serene the pistons were. And a few minutes from the buzzer, they decided to let Drummond go, probably in panic. Because when you see the counterpart, you look up to heaven. Careful, it stinks. In exchange for Andre, Detroit gets … Brandon Knight, John Henson and a second round of draft 2023 based on the details of Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer. It's ugly, isn't it? According to the latter, the pistons actually wanted to avoid the possibility of having Drummond activate its player option next year and thus take 28.7 million in the salary cap. Detroit made sure to free up some space in his Cape as Knight and Henson were in the final year of their contract, and that would allow young Christian Wood to have the keys in the painting. All right, all right, but the exchange is still pretty bad.

Transfer Summary:

Officiel : Andre Drummond transféré à… Cleveland contre pas grand-chose, il est là l’échange WTF du soir !

For the Horsemen, it's an intriguing transfer. They get a solid pivot for at least half a season and will be able to see over the next few weeks what it can do, even if there are interiors Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson in the racket (what if there is a buyout coming for TT?). Andre Drummond turned this season at 17.8 points (a career record) and 15.8 rebounds in 49 games under the Detroit jersey. Of course, given DRE's contractual situation, there's a way that Cleveland will lose the player without any consideration. But since the Cavs have almost done nothing to get it, it's an experiment that can be tempted, especially since they will now be able to offer Drummond a bigger contract than any other franchise on the Free Agency market. There are about 30 games to play this year, so Cleveland doesn't have much to lose in history. Moreover, the Horsemen may well say to themselves that Drummond is not the man of the situation and thus avoid prolonging it. Of course, there's always this player option hanging out, but it's only for an extra season. So there's flexibility on both sides, and next summer we'll see how it all ends.

We knew Andre Drummond had a chance to move from Detroit, but we didn't expect him to land in Cleveland. For the pistons, the counterpart is not really one and it is above all a transfer to free up space in the salary cap.
