Is Paris really the capital of fashion?<

A British study reports that Paris is indeed the most "fashionable" city in the world - followed closely by London and New York.

From Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City to the heroines of Gossip Girl, all the fashionistas of the small screen are rushing, for an episode or two, to Paris, aka the capital of fashion. Emily In Paris even put her suitcases there. As for the film The Devil Wears Prada, it presented Paris Fashion Week as a paradise for fashionistas. But does Paris, birthplace of Haute Couture and headquarters of some of the world's greatest luxury houses, still live up to its reputation? Absolutely, according to a recent study.

Conducted by the British agency Digitaloft and published on the Jewelerybox website, this study ranks the most "fashionable" cities in the world. And confirms that Paris is indeed THE capital of fashion, followed closely by London, then New York. Milan, Amsterdam and Tokyo are fourth, fifth and sixth in this ranking.

Job offers and streetstyle

Is Paris really the capital of fashion?

To establish this list, six criteria were taken into account. For each city, the agency counted, per 100,000 inhabitants, the number of designer brands, fashion magazines, fashion schools, fashion job offers (based on Indeed), related to shopping (based on Tripadvisor), and "streetstyle" hashtags used on Instagram according to geolocation.

Paris comes first, in particular thanks to its number of designer brands and schools providing training in the fashion industry. London with great designers, such as Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs, comes second. New York completes the podium, boosted by its number of fashion magazines, including Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

Those looking for a career in fashion will have more choice in Amsterdam, however, where there are the most fashion-related job vacancies (with 51.2 vacancies per 100,000 inhabitants). By way of comparison, Paris offers only 9.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, and London 5.8.

Finally, Tokyo stands out as the city with the most fashion magazines (17), while Dubai, which is eighth in the general ranking, is the place where the hashtag #streetstyle is used the most , which consists of taking a photo of an everyday look on the street.
