Petit Bulletin LYON - Cinéma Lyon: review of the film Brame et Châtiment: "Killing of the Sacred Deer" By Yórgos Lánthimos (Greek-English, 2h01) with Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell by Vincent Raymond<

Steven forms with Anne a posh couple of doctors, parents of two children bursting with happiness and health. Until Martin, a fatherless teenager with whom Steven is strangely infatuated, comes to anathema their lives by imposing an odious blackmail

Cannes 2017, or the edition of the epigones: while Östlund eyed Haneke's side with The Square, Lánthimos cast oblique glances in the direction of Lars von Trier with this Talionnesque and grandiloquent tragedy, where a sinner in l n this case a doctor guilty of having killed a patient by negligence sees himself condemned to suffer a punishment commensurate with his fault. But when Lars von Trier seeks to submit his characters to a test, his colleague seems more inclined to test his audience by using low provocation.

Lánthimos indeed likes to give in the symbolic sacrifice, not reluctant in passing to a bit of putass obscenity: Martin thus indulges here in a preliminary imprecation, announcing the agony of the children, so that we savor their mysterious suffering as long as possible. And by taking refuge behind the fantastic, therefore the genre, he satisfies an unhealthy taste for pain and barbarism, filming acts of torture with suspicious complacency. Intellectually perverse, deceptively audacious, aesthetically cold, this pseudo denunciation of the dominant caste stuffed with stars suffers from a cruel absence of ethics.
