Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket finally embark on international<

In what could be considered one of the longest phone launches in recent memory, Huawei has finally managed to bring its latest P-series smartphones – specifically the P50 Pro and P50 Pocket – to a multitude of new international markets, from January 26, 2022.Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket are finally launching internationallyHuawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket are finally launching internationally

Huawei first unveiled the P50 series in July last year, with a China-only launch that brought local customers both the standard P50 and P50 Pro, while the foldable P50 Pocket only made its way to the Chinese market at the end of December 2021.

Huawei teased an international release for the series in October 2021, but it wasn't until mid-January 2022 that pre-orders opened in the first countries outside of China for the Pro and Pocket (the base P50 remains a Chinese exclusive, for now).

Those who have followed the mobile industry over the past two years will know that for a variety of reasons – including a pandemic-stricken supply chain and global chip shortages – myriad big names in the space mobile (Samsung and Huawei among them) have not been able to bring devices to market when they would have liked.

As such, the specs of the P50 Pro and Pocket might look more like early 2021 hardware, rather than 2022, but the company remains confident in its design engineering, performance and its camera technologies to appeal to consumers even in the face of these delays. .

The Huawei P50 Pro is the more conventional flagship, with an attractive candy bar form factor that encapsulates a 6.6-inch 120Hz curved-edge AMOLED display and a powerful rear quad-sensor setup, integrated into the phone's distinctive dual-array camera design, while the P50 Pocket is Huawei's first clamshell-style foldable, which seeks to go up against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Both phones are powered by a 4G-only variant of Qualcomm's 2021 flagship mobile chip - the Snapdragon 888 - and feature a base 8GB of RAM, while software is where these international versions go. differ the most from their Chinese counterparts.

The main software here is EMUI 12 (running on Android 11) out of the box, not HarmonyOS 2, which has some difference in terms of interaction and interconnectivity with other Huawei products.

While both phones have already started pre-orders in select markets ahead of the official January 26 release, Huawei has now officially committed to bringing the devices to "Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Europe and Latin America", in what is called "phase one".

Price-wise, in European markets the 8GB RAM and 256GB SKU of the Huawei P50 Pro costs €1,199, while the Ceramic White P50 Pocket (again with 8GB RAM) costs €1,199. €299. The foldable also has a textured and polished Premium Edition in gold – designed by high fashion designer Iris Van Herpen and with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage – which costs €1,599.
