VILLARCEAUX

Heritage Days: our selection in the Val-d'Oise

The Villarceaux estate opens its most precious jewel to visitors: the Ninon manor and its painted cabinets. This place sheltered, for three years in the middle of the 17th century, the love of Louis de Mornay, Marquis de Villarceaux, and Ninon de Lenclos. This woman of letters who frequented Molière or even La Rochefoucauld decorated her Villarceaux cabinets in a way that says a lot about her freedom of spirit and her feminism: two portraits of strong women and different religions, Elisabeth I of England and Anne of Austria, sit enthroned among “grotesque paintings” (inspired by Antiquity) on the ceiling and others meant to invite contemplation. Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free on prior registration on 01 34 67 74 33 (duration: approximately 1 hour).
